COMMUNITY
FOCUS
Grenada Co-operative Bank takes seriously its commitment to the
community that it serves and its responsibility to respond to their
changing community needs. Our national commitments and leveraging
activities focus on several major platforms. These include the sponsorship
of a number of events spanning different areas, including education,
sports, cultural development and community outreach.
Educational Development
Co-op Bank demonstrates its commitment through sponsorship of many related educational programmes and activities.
Standing tall among them is the annual SGU Knowledge Bowl, where our nation's Secondary schools undertake the academic challenge
to compete on subject areas in the school's curriculum. Another is the Sir Archibald Nedd Lecture Series. Over the past 6

years, Co-op Bank has sponsored this prestigious endeavour enlightening the public on topical constitutional
and legal issues that affect our society. The Julien Fedon Memorial Lecture Series is also noteworthy. The Bank's association
with the name and figure of Julien Fedon and his legendary place in Grenadian folk history, endorses the image of Co-op Bank being
the only fully indigenous Commercial Bank in Grenada, and further promotes our commitment to supporting and preserving the Grenadian Heritage.
Our commitment transcends the classroom and lecture hall.
Road safety signs have been erected in the vicinity of all secondary in Grenada ensuring the safety of our children as they journey to and from their respective
educational institutions. Our support for the Junior Achievement programme is significant as we endeavour to mould future businessmen and women, providing mentors
from within the Bank, to impart the relevant knowledge and experience for the development of a successful business.
Sports
For the fifth consecutive year, Co-op Bank has provided full title
sponsorship for both the St. Andrew's and St. Patrick's G.U.T. Primary
School Athletic Games. The Bank is also the proud sponsor of the
G.U.T. National Primary Schools Athletic Championships, which sees
athletes from every parish converging to the National Stadium for
competition. The games have produced outstanding athletes including
World Indoor 400m Champion Alleyne Francique who was a former participant
of the St. Andrew’s games. Sports and Youth Development are
two of the many areas in which the Bank places emphasis and has
extended continued support. The Bank is therefore proud to be involved
in the nurturing and development these fledgling athletes.
In recognition of the need for holistic development and the positive
benefits, which may be derived through participation in various
sporting activities, the Bank proudly makes contributions each year
to various sporting associations in support of their work and activities.
Support is given to the Grenada Amateur Swimming Association to
defray expenses for the National Swim Team to participate in the
annual OECS Swimming Championships. We also contribute to the Carriacou
United Cricket Board towards their participation in the Sir Garfield
Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament in Barbados.
Grenada and its dependencies have a long history and close relationship
with sea trading, fishing and boat building. The Grenada Sailing
Festival, which is held annually, has also had our support. The
Bank is pleased to provide sponsorship towards the development of
sailing in Grenada and throughout the region. The Workboat Regatta
is one of the many events held during the festival and one that
receives the greatest local participation and support.
Cultural Development
Support for culture and the performing arts has always been an area,
which has merited the Bank's support since it believes that it positively
contributes to the holistic development of a wide cross-section
of the community.
As
a Diamond Sponsor, the bank was able to help provide a unique Grenadian
cultural experience to visitors and nationals during the CWC 2007
period at the Made in Grenada Festival (MIG Fest).
Co-op Bank is now the lead sponsor of String Band Competition of
the annually held Carriacou Parang Festival. This Festival is one
of the more popular and celebrated festivals on the sister isle
of Carriacou and is highly anticipated by all. It is a unique showcase
of string band music and folk dancing, which is keenly contested.
The Bank also aims at harnessing the intellect and imaginative talents
of our nation’s youngsters to develop and produce well-thought
ideas through the performing arts, by sponsoring the series of Co-op
Bank Junior Calypso Workshops.
Support is also given to various theatre groups such as the RKD,
Family and Heritage Theatre Groups for productions such as “Ay
Ya Yai Ivan”, “The Burial of Miss Faithlyn” and
“A Father’s Love”.
Co-op Bank will continue to go the extra mile to ensure that the
community in which we serve has within its reach the opportunity
of a brighter future and in turn a healthier economy.
