Grenada Co-operative Bank takes seriously its commitment to the community that it serves and its responsibility to respond to changing community needs.
It sponsors many events and makes donations to many charitable organizations in Grenada. Run St. Patrick’s Run Road Race, Spice Jazz Festival and Kids in Action are just a few of the sponsored events.
Its contributions to education, sports, youth and culture have been among the bank’s proudest achievements. Since 2001, in collaboration with the University of the West Indies and the Institute for People’s Enlightenment, the Bank has sponsored the ‘Co-op Bank Julien Fédon Memorial Award’, a company of the Junior Achievement Programme and has supported the "GRENCODA Student Assistance Programme" which aids destitute students from low-income families at the secondary and tertiary level. The Bank has also supported the Grenada Bar Association in its annual “Sir Archibald Nedd Memorial Lecture” and has been the title sponsor of the Grenada Union of Teachers (G.U.T) Primary School Athletic Championships in St. Andrew’s and co-title sponsor of the Grenada National Workboat Regatta 2004. Shortly after Hurricane Ivan, the bank sponsored the musical play “Ay Ya Yai Ivan” and sponsors the annual Grenada Drum festival.
The Bank supported the launching and distribution of "Grenada: A History of its People" written by Beverley A. Steele. The Bank sponsored the official launch as well as purchased and donated fifty (50) copies of the said book, to all secondary schools and public libraries in Grenada and Carriacou.
Grenada Co-operative Bank is also recognized for its commitment to the development and preservation of the environment. Its has contributed generously to the development of a public recreational park under the Rotary Club’s “Quarantine Point Project”, the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority annual anti-litter awareness campaign, the Prepare to Survive hurricane preparedness radio programme, the erection of bus shelters and the restoration and beautification of landmarks. Co-op Bank has been the proud recipient of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Good Corporate Citizen Award for Environmental Awareness in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and is the only bank in the OECS to have been recognized as such. |
