On August 9, 2025, Pantastic Saturday, Co-op Bank Commancheros Steel Orchestra delivered a riveting championship performance to capture their 8th national panorama title. From the first bow to the final note, the St. Paul’s-based steel orchestra wowed the audience at the National Stadium with their dynamic, high-energy rendition of Flying Turkey’s Ling Ting Ting arranged by Andre Greenidge and Mikiel Smith.
The official partnership between Co-op Bank and Commancheros started in July 2022, when Co-op Bank became the steel orchestra’s title sponsor, just in time for the first Panorama competition following the Covid-19 pandemic. That year, Co-op Bank Commancheros won the coveted national title with their rendition of Miney’s 10,000 Masqueraders. In the 3 years since, Commancheros has proudly represented Co-op Bank and the relationship between the Bank and steel band has been a true reflection of our commitment to culture.
“A major part of the modern Bank’s success has been its support and nurturing of Grenadian culture from the traditional to the innovative, developing the pride, creativity and confidence necessary for national identity and growth, and acknowledging the struggles and achievements of the past as the foundation for moving forward.” – excerpt from By the Hand$ of Grenadian$
Here at Co-op Bank, we recognize the significant role culture plays in our nation’s holistic development. With culture being a cornerstone of our corporate social responsibility agenda, we believe in providing meaningful support to cultural initiatives and programmes that influence positive change and leave a lasting impact on the communities we serve. Through our investment into Commancheros, we support the band in their efforts to foster community spirit and create a safe space for pan players of all ages. For the junior players, especially, playing the steel pan helps them develop critical life skills, such as discipline, time management and teamwork.
While we are proud to be part of the Cheros Posse, we continue to assist other initiatives in the cultural and performing arts spaces. For example, this year, in 2025, we supported the staging of two major theatrical productions: Rivals a play by Francis Urias Peters and Heritage Theatre Company’s Breaking Out. Both sold-out productions brought new talent to the stage, an encouraging sign for the future of theatre in Grenada.
Co-op Bank remains committed to preserving our rich cultural heritage and nurturing creative expression. By supporting our cultural practitioners, we continue to contribute to our country’s development and uplift national pride.
