St. George’s, Grenada – September 2nd, 2026 – Grenada Co-operative Bank Limited has pledged its commitment to creating a more inclusive workplace by signing the Disability Inclusive Employer Pledge, a joint United Nations Caribbean Initiative under the UN’s Hireability Campaign. The pledge was signed as part of the official launch ceremony of the Hireability Campaign held virtually on Thursday, August 27th, 2026.
Co-op Bank is the only local institution to sign the pledge thus far, marking an important step in advancing disability inclusion and equitable employment opportunities within the local workplace. During the launch, Nicola Philip, Executive Manager, Human Resources, delivered the Bank’s commitment statement, affirming its intention to move beyond words and take tangible steps towards creating opportunities for people with disabilities.
As an initial action under its commitment, Co-op Bank intends to introduce an internship programme for people with disabilities. This aims to provide meaningful workplace exposure and professional development while allowing the Bank to also learn from the experience, identify potential barriers and explore opportunities for greater inclusion.
“At Grenada Co-operative Bank Limited, we believe that ability and talent should never be overshadowed by one’s disability,” Ms. Philip stated in delivering the Bank’s commitment statement. She concluded “We see this as the beginning of a much broader journey towards greater inclusion and equal opportunity”.
Through the pledge, Co-op Bank has committed to creating an inclusive and responsive workplace that acknowledges and values the talents of all people, including those with disabilities. This includes supporting equitable hiring practices that promote equal access and opportunity for all, while also upholding dignity and respect for all, in keeping with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
The Bank’s participation in the Hireability Campaign reflects its recognition that meaningful inclusion requires more than acknowledgement, but rather, deliberate action to ensure people with disabilities have opportunities to participate, contribute and thrive in the workplace.
As the only indigenous bank, Co-op Bank believes that building a stronger and more sustainable workforce requires ensuring that talent and potential are not overlooked because of one’s disability. The Bank looks forward to working alongside the United Nations Caribbean, people with
disabilities and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities as it takes this important step towards a more inclusive workplace, and by extension, a more inclusive Grenada.
